so my daughter tells me this evening that she was chatting with mom at lunch today and mentioned a birthday party she's attending this weekend.
it's making Jehovah sad
Poor little guy. Some children are having a party for another child's special day and Jehovah is feeling sad because this kid is getting more attention than him. Do Jehovah's Witnesses really think this whiney self-centered little cry baby is the right guy to be running the universe?
at times i will greet a brother or a sister at the kingdom hall and i will ask them how they are.. they look at me with tired eyes and say, i'm h.e.r.e.this poem is for all of us who are glad that you are h.e.r.e.. .
the kids were cranky, your husband was late.
the dinner you had ready just had to wait.
I would retitle that poem "The Nightmare Continues"
we are celebrating xmas this year for the first time.
it's kinda weird because, even though we're doing a xmas tree, decorations, gifts, we're more or less taking the christ out of christmas.
so how about the rest of you non-christian heathens?.
I'm not an atheist but I don't see why an atheist wouldn't celebrate it if they raised with it and enjoyed it. The way it is celebrated probably has more to do with Charles Dickens than the Bible anyway. I think it is just a lot of fun for people no matter what they believe. Even Richard Dawkins celebrates Christmas and enjoys singing carols.
i was dfd in 1995 however i still believed it was the truth until 2009. and until then i was fearful of armageddon's day.. i remember every time i'd see a dark sky with thunders and lighting i would question if that was it.
the news of any major disaster, hurricanes earthquakes would ignite fear inside me and i would think that could be the beginning of the end.. when i was around 8 i remember going to visit my grandma and she was watching the news.
a major conflict in the middle east had ended and some president said that the world was not in peace.
I'm not sure how much I really believed in it. For me I think it was one of the JW things that didn't make a lot of sense to me (Jehovah killing all my neighbors, everyone we see on tv etc) so I think I just put it on the back burner along with everything else I didn't get and never really thought about it that much. Not being raised in it I can only imagine how it must have effected anyone who was I child listening to that nonsense. And isn't all that JW artwork on the subject just lovely stuff for children to grow up looking at.
CJ you said you were still fearful of the big "A" years after you left it. I was lucky enough to come in contact with people who had left the Watctower and were able to clear up any ideas I might have had that the Witness were right about anything. I consider it a real tragedy when some leaves the Witnesses believing that it is still the truth and they are the ones with the problem. I remember talking with a friend of mines son who had been out of the WT for years and when I mentioned that the Watchtower was full of crap he was surprized that I didn't believe in it anymore. I was shocked that he appearantly and though that I did also. What a guilt trip that has to put on you.
apart from the scripture about love being the identifying mark of a christian, it seems to me that james 1,27 and matthew 25:34-40 quoted below are the biblical priorities of a christian.. .
although preaching was not included in the three quotes i guess it would be included as christian thing to do.
it has been the thing most stressed by the watchtower hierarchy and certain hours are required to be an elder etc.. does it show something about their priorities that pioneers can count time hour for hour when working on watchtower buildings?
I guess the WT allows some to fudge on their time when it is to their benefit. With their example no wonder witness find it easy to mess with their time cards.
As for spending time and money taking care of the homeless I guess the way the Watchtower looks at it is there is nothing in it for them so why do it. The homeless usually have a lot of mental problems but not the kind that would make them good JWs. And what is the point in helping out the poor? They wouldn't be able to give anything back to the Watchtower because they're....well poor. If the WT does some thing they want a return on their investment.
I remember working on a hall they were building with a friend of mine. When he told an elder from my hall he wouldn't be able to make it the next day because his wife was pregnant the elder ask him what was more important Jehovah's work or his family. At least the guy had the sense to spend the following day with his wife and not listen to that idiot.
Life is too short. You just had the wrong attitude to be a good JW. You cared about people not numbers. No wonder you are here.

it was time for me to leave the wt (at least in my mind) when it became damaging to me.
Why not just leave for a while, cool down and come back when you calm down. I don't get why people get overly upset when people say things about their god. Do you remember back in the late 80's when Muslims wanted to kill Salman Rushdie because they believed he had offended god. What kind of god would get all upset about anything we could say about him? Is their god really that petty? And if he is that upset can't he take care of business himself? To me it looks like something like this is going on here: "You said mean things about my god and now he is in his room crying I just don't know how he will ever get over it."
I believe in god but I also realize that people have legitimate reasons not to believe and many of their critisms about religion are justified. I also know that there are fundies on both sides of the debate that are all very sure that they have all the correct answers and know how exactly how it is. Good for them. Why let it bother you?
Anyway don't let it get to you. Take a break, come back and go for round two. This place is what you make of it.
i have been living in florida for almost a year.
during that time i have gained 20 pounds!!.
those 20 pounds are on top of the 15 i was already overweight when i came down.. i am now at the heaviest i have ever been in my life.
How about some simple things like use the stairs when possible. Don't look for the closest parking space. Mow your own lawn or shovel your own snow.
If you have access to a pool swimming is very good way to get tone.
